A very early and unique Epiphone banjo. There is no serial number and only a "patent applied for" stamp on the flange which, from our knowledge, dates this prior to 1924 and just after the origin of the name Epiphone by E.A. Stathopoulo, who's name is featured in the elaborate headstock inlay work.

Originally a tenor, the conversion to 5-string is very nicely done using the original headstock plate and same style fretboard inlays. 12" pot with a very unique, heavy tone ring. Even with the "fiberskyn" head this banjo is much more powerful than any other 12" banjos we have encountered. Beautiful deep sound while still retaining crisp clarity and cutting power. It would be equally at home playing either clawhammer or bluegrass styles. The banjo is set up and plays wonderfully in all positions with no issues. Comes with a very nice Superior Deluxe hardshell case.
