2022 Ellis A5 Special in excellent condition. Any signs of use are sparse and require extremely close scrutiny to notice.

An absolutely amazing A5 from one of the greatest builders of our time, this is a mandolin that confidently crosses the threshold of what makes the best mandolins available anywhere. The tone is beautiful and rich with a lush, complex depth but still maintains crystal clear definition and note separation. Perfectly balanced across the strings as well as up and down the neck, losing no tone or power in any position. Beautiful delicate tonal characteristics when played with a light touch, unveiling a whole other level of tonality when driven. This will certainly be someone's "holy grail" mandolin.

We acquired this mandolin back from the original owner, who purchased it brand new from us just over a year ago. It was rarely played and always kept in a climate controlled environment. It still retains the original shop set up and plays beautifully in all positions with no issues whatsoever. The original purchase price was over $10,000 so this is a great deal on this very recently built instrument.

Ellis' "special grade" woods, Adirondack spruce top, Sugar maple back/sides/neck, varnish finish, fully bound (top, back, sides, neck, headstock) in triple binding, tapered varnish speed neck, gold Waverly tuners w/ebony buttons, gold engraved custom James tailpiece, Ellis' custom "Deco" pearl headstock inlay and headstock shaping, Ellis made full contact ebony bridge w/gold wheels, ebony fretboard with pearl block position markers, triple bound ebony pick guard, ebony endpin with pearl eye, gold EVO frets, adjustable truss rod, radiused fretboard, 1-1/8" nut width. Comes with a custom Calton case made specifically for Ellis and bearing his logo.
