2002 Collings MF5
2002 Collings MF5
2002 Collings MF5 in very good condition. It has the dings, scratches, and finish abrasions associated with virtually any instrument that has been in constant service for over the past 20 years, but it is 100% structurally perfect, showing no sign of prior repairs and none needed.
This early F5 is a shining example of what the Collings mandolin legacy was built on. Beautiful, rich tonal character with power to spare. A wonderful balance of depth and complexity with a crisp, woody pop that would be equally at home in a bluegrass setting as it would playing jazz standards. With 22 years of playing time and aging, it exhibits a mature and seasoned tone that simply isn't available in a newly constructed instrument. We just performed a full set-up to return the mandolin to Collings' shop specifications and it plays beautifully in all positions with no issues whatsoever. For the player undeterred by a little honest play wear and aging, this is a great opportunity to acquire a stellar F5 that has been "played in" many times over.
Adirondack spruce top, Sugar maple back/sides/neck, fully bound with Loar style "side triple binding", gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish in dark sunburst, ebony radisued fretboard, ebony adjustable bridge, bound ebony pick guard, adjustable truss rod with ebony cover plate, ebony endpin with pearl eye, Schaller tuners, 1-1/8" bone nut. Comes with its original hardshell case from Collings.
