1997 Gilchrist Model 3 - Wide Nut

1997 Gilchrist Model 3 (#394) in very good condition for an instrument that has been in constant service for 30 years. The usual small dings and scratches associated with most instruments of this age. Most notable is some rash where the pick guard would be located. The pick guard is in good condition and included, but the pins fit loosely in the fretboard extension and will buzz at certain frequencies, so we have left it off. No cracks or repairs.

We are offering this instrument on behalf of the original owner (no trades please) who purchased the mandolin brand new directly from Stephen Gilchrist. The owner is a beloved long time Austin musician and this mandolin will be instantly recognizable to many in the local bluegrass and folk music scene. We know of many local mandolin players that have yearned for this instrument, so now is your chance to own it!

This is an extremely powerful instrument with a beautiful rich depth complimented by crisp, clear articulation. Ear-tingling "wooden bell" notes that are balanced and equally powerful over the entire fretboard. Certainly one of the finest sounding mandolins that we have ever encountered. The mandolin has been professionally set-up and plays wonderfully in all positions with no issues.
