1989 Kentucky KM-DAWG
1989 Kentucky KM-DAWG
1989 Kentucky KM-DAWG in excellent vintage condition. Being over 30 years old, it does show its fair share of some small scuffs, dings, and finish abrasions but the instrument is overall very beautiful and 100% structurally sound with no cracks, previous repairs, or other issues. It is all original except that the previous owner replaced the original bridge with a Tom Ellis full contact ebony bridge and swapped out the original plastic tuner buttons for ebony. The original parts are in the case and included with the mandolin.
This is a beautiful sounding instrument modeled after the Monteleone Grand Artist. We have had the opportunity to A/B this mandolin with a 1988 Monteleone and the tonal similarities are shocking! From our understanding, all of the KM-DAWG mandolins made after 1987 were solely hand built by famed Japanese luthier Sumi. While we cannot completely verify this, judging from our experience this instrument has all the signs of a fine luthier made mandolin. Being one of only 48 total ever made, this is a very rare bird. Highly collectible, with the added bonus of being a delightful instrument to own and play. Radiused fretboard, 1-1/16" nut width. Comes with its original oblong hardshell case, also in excellent vintage condition.
