1973 Gibson Mastertone Replica (Ty Piper)
1973 Gibson Mastertone Replica (Ty Piper)
Gibson Mastertone replica made by Ty Piper in 1973. Mr. Piper eventually went on to start his own brand of bluegrass style banjos named Imperial, which were played by the likes of Bob Black and Pete Wernick. Prior to this though, he made very nice Gibson Mastertone copies like this one. This is a very high quality banjo with a loud, crisp voice and, in our opinion, superior to the "actual" Gibson banjos of this era.
For an instrument over 50 years old, it is in good condition. It shows a lot of finish checking and abrasions but nothing outside of the scope for an instrument of this age. We think the aged patina, along with the beautiful binding/inlays/caraftsmanship make for a very attractive combination, particularly if one is enthusiastic about vintage instruments. Spikes installed at frets 7,9,10. Comes with an older hardshell case that shows some wear but still functions perfectly.
