1936 Gibson Super 400 in very good vintage condition. Of course it has all of the scratches, dings, and finish checking associated with virtually any instrument that has been in service for close to a century. The pick guard is a modern reproduction and the tuners/tailpiece are post 1939 era, likely swapped out by the Gibson factory as this was common practice during that time.
The Gibson Super 400 is one of the most sought after guitars and this is easily the finest sounding archtop guitar to ever grace our shop. Its almost unbelievable that a guitar this big can produce such an incredibly balanced voice. It has a wonderful, seasoned, rich depth but also produces a crisp and punchy attack in all registers and rings out clearly with every note. The set up is perfect with a nice low action that plays easily in every position with no issues whatsoever. This instrument is a shining example of why the Super 400 was such a celebrated model! This guitar was previously owned by former Light Crust Doughboy's guitarist J.B. Brinkley and used by multiple members of the band. There are likely others, but it is the only example we have seen with the rare "bubble" figure in the maple back..just beautiful! We do not have this hanging on the wall so be sure to ask to see it when you come in. Comes with a very nice modern Gibson hardshell case.
