1922 Gibson F4 in good vintage condition. Shows the scratches/wear/finish abrasions typical of most all instruments over 100 years old, but is 100% structurally sound with no cracks, great top arching, and no seam separations. Well repaired headstock scroll break (very common). Even with all of the wear, it is still an absolutely gorgeous instrument...check out that one piece back! We believe the mandolin is all original except for the tuners (they are certainly very old but do not look like what usually see on these) and the missing pick guard.

This is a wonderful sounding F4 from the most desirable period from Gibson. Rich low end tone with nice crisp and seasoned trebles. You just cannot get this sound with a modern instrument. The Loar period mandolins are known for being more balanced and not as bass heavy as some from the teens, and this one is certainly well balanced. Very even across the strings as well as up and down the neck. Some of the old Gibson oval hole mandolins have a hard time being heard in an ensemble but we feel like this example has enough punch and clarity to provide ample "cutting power" and would be just as at home in a bluegrass circle as it would playing solo mandolin. A beautifully well rounded old Gibson. The mandolin has been set up and plays easily in all positions with no issues. The truss rod performs as it should and the adjustable bridge has room to either raise or lower the action to personal preference. Comes with its original case. 1-3/16" nut width.
