We have always been huge fans of Collings' varnish mandolins and a big part of that reason is their tendency to provide an extra level of volume and responsiveness compared to the lacquer models. This particular mandolin puts that into the next gear, and does so while still retaining an absolutely beautiful and almost delicate quality to the tone. Very rewarding to the player that uses dynamics and alternates between a light touch and more vigorous playing. Deep and rich tone yet still exhibits incredible cutting power. It is quite rare for a mandolin to have this much power and still have such a beautiful, nuanced tone.
